Turkish Transpersonal Psychology and Psychiatry Association
Turkish Transpersonal Psychology and Psychiatry Association ( Benötesi Psikolojisi ve Psikiyatrisi Derneği) was formally founded in 2006 as the first establishment of this area, in Turkey. The president and one of the founders of association, psychiatrist N.Mustafa Merter was interested with the idea of transpersonal states of human being and application of this system to psychotherapy long before the foundation of association. Drawing on the works of Tart and Wilber about altered states of consciousness and also knowledge of the self in ancient Sufi tradition, he wrote a book called ‘900 Katlı İnsan’ (900 ‘Existential’ Levels of Human Being) which aims to share the idea of transpersonal in Turkish.
Activities of Turkish Transpersonal Psychology ans Psychiatry Association are presented mainly in two ways;
- Regular seminars concerning the evolution and application of transpersonal psychology and psychotherapy including dream interpretation, its theoretical background and the role of its practices in transpersonal psychology and psychotherapy.
- Training sessions are organized for psychologists and psychiatrists to be a transpersonal psychotherapist, by the president of association. Training to be a transpersonal psychotherapist includes individual therapies aiming to teach the basis of analysis techniques and group therapies in the same way.
Besides, various study groups work on translating some necessary and valuable documents and articles about transpersonal approach as well as dreams and their importance and application to therapy sessions.
Future aim of the association is to increase the awareness of people about transpersonal existence of human being and to train much more psychologists and psychiatrists in this subject to help others free.
