1. Welcome from our New President

Dear friends,

After a rather harsh winter now spring shows its first flowers – and together with it a stream of energy within the work of EUROTAS

This year two important conferences will be happening: The annual EUROTAS conference in Switzerland organized by Fausto Sommer and his team. There is a creative and promising theme: “Knowledge, Pleasure and Belief” and a magic place on at Lake Thun where the Conference will take place from 29th September - 3rd October

From 23/27 June Vladimir Maykov and the Russian transpersonal association invite you to a conference in Moscow: “Transpersonal Discoveries That Are Changing the World.”  See below for details

This conference is a powerful renewal of the International Transpersonal Association (ITA) with a long and famous tradition which was founded about 30 years ago by Stanislav Grof

Beside the attractive program there will be the first meeting of the new International Board of the ITA. It is an assembly of internationally known researchers. This assembly has an important meaning also for EUROTAS. It is the first time that a large international team of transpersonal oriented scientists and psychotherapists have agreed to come together and carry out common research. It was the initiative of Les Lancaster who carefully put together this assembly – a thousand thanks to him

Another important focus of activities in EUROTAS is ECCA (The European Committee for Certification and Accreditation). As you might have seen at our website, it is a team of five experienced therapists coming together twice the year to certify carefully transpersonal psychotherapists who apply for the EUROTAS certificate. The team kindly asks for more applications to strengthen our transpersonal community and give more weight to transpersonal psychology and psychotherapy in the public eye

This year ECCA will also start an accreditation process for transpersonal training institutes. If you are member of such an institute please contact the EUROTAS office, and we will give you more information. The next ECCA meeting will be in Paris in the middle of May

Our EUROTAS office is reachable regularly Monday –Thursday from 9.30-12.30

Telephone +49-761-475846.

May you all feel connected to us and the EUROTAS family

Ingo B. Jahrsetz
President                           Freiburg/Germany

2. After the Milan EUROTAS Conference - Pier Luigi Lattuada

Dear friends, I still have your eyes in my eyes and already we are looking forward to the ITA Conference in Moscow, ready for new smiles from the heart. The success of Milan, the wealth of content and especially the sense of community that we experienced together has enabled us to develop a new challenge - a magazine of transpersonal science

In view of the large quantity of material collected from the 11th EUROTAS Conference we thought we would produce a journal to promote the debate “Towards a Transpersonal Gnosis.” We may not have the expertise of our friends of the Bay Area and to them we bow with respect and ask and offer collaboration. We believe it is time that the old Europe makes its voice heard and take the courage, if you remember to “dare to open the doors”

We want to open the doors of an integral transpersonal vision, a heart-oriented science and knowledge to face this brain oriented world. And we will start from here in Milan, Italy. As the proverb says: “Milan with the heart in hand”

More news later
With love
Pier Luigi

3. The 17th International Transpersonal Conference, Moscow 23- 27 June

“The Consciousness Revolution: Transpersonal Discoveries

that are changing the World”

Moscow, June 23 – 27, 2010.

The mission of the Conference is to present, both experientially and didactically, breakthrough discoveries revealing the fundamental role of consciousness in all human affairs and the value for humanity of our growing insights into the nature of consciousness and of the world. We want to review the role the transpersonal perspective has played in human history from the time of the first shamans 50.000 years ago to the discoveries of modern consciousness research, transpersonal psychology, and other scientific disciplines

The Conference will present not only a comprehensive overview of the forty years of the transpersonal paradigm through the voices of its founders and pioneers, but also outline its future perspectives. The lasting legacy of this conference will be several volumes documenting its proceedings in hundreds of papers by authors from many countries of the world, exploring the relevance of transpersonal research and ideas for science, politics, economy, ecology, religion, art, and other fields. We hope to bring over 1000 participants from more than 50 countries, as well as numerous keynote speakers, artists, and spiritual teachers

4.  News from Latvia

Dear Friends

The Latvian Professional Transpersonal Psychology Association (LTPPA) was established in 2001. In early 2009 it was re-registered, and two streams of interests emerged

  1. S. Groff practices and Holotropic breathing
  2. Transpersonal arts therapies

This resulted in the first Transpersonal Summer Academy - “Labyrinth-T” which took place in Latvia from 6 – 9th August last year. It was fantastic!

It was in the countryside on the property of Turs Selga, a transpersonal biologist and labyrinth illuminator, where a an amazing tree-lined labyrinth was established over 15 years ago

International professionals within different fields of expertise came from Australia, Denmark and Estonia. These included transpersonal psychologist Prof. Juri Biechinski; artists Leva and Ole Lindquist and transpersonal music therapist V. Lagzdina

The full moon was on the rise throughout this period. All participants camped in tents in the fields. There was no electricity and we ate around a campfire for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Meals were made communally and delicious tastes highlighted every meal

Participants came from different parts of Latvia but all had an interest and/or qualifications in art, art therapy, psychology, drama and teaching. There were 35 participants

The program was intense and each day began with a specifically instructed walk through the labyrinth, the site of which held power in itself, and over the days some profound experiences were discovered by the participants. Seminars and workshops were spread across the three days and included: the theory and practice of transpersonal psychology as frame-worked by Juri Bienchonski; transpersonal art therapy and practice, and shamanic journeys were  presented by Ingrida Indane;  creativity and self-therapy, the human body as sculpture were two sunny sessions given by artists Ole and Ieva Lindquist; building a tepee lodge in American Indian tradition together with the practices of this culture took place over the 3 days with Vineta Lagzdina; two very full sessions of Holotropic breathing, followed by de-briefing were under the guidance of Vladislav Kenga; then a most inspiring introduction to Sufism with a “Zikra” meditation in leadership of Aigars Burgelis; as well as discussion sessions “experimental structure in transpersonal psychology, “medicinal plants for balsamic purposes” with Dr. Turs Selga.  Various meditations, chantings, rituals also took place over the days

The program was completed with a traditional and ultra cleansing sauna “pirts” built on the property, with beatings of birch using branches of birch from the surrounding forest.“Labyrinths-T” covered an immense range of principles and practices within transpersonal psychology in just three days, and feedback was very positive.

It gave rise to planning a more extended and deeper program for 2010. We look forward to further development and cooperation with all the inspiring and wonderful people from EUROTAS. Latvia is a truly beautiful country – do come!

Light, love, learning and discovery,
Ingrida Indane and Vineta Lagzdina

5. Peer supervision group in London; Claudia Nielsen

Claudia who is responsible for the London Branch of the Scientific and Medical Network writes: “ I would like to form a small peer supervision group in London and am looking for like-minded, practicing psychotherapy clinicians to meet once a month. Our first meeting would probably be face to face, but then we could consider the use of Skype. I would suggest that orientation is secondary to a spiritual inclination, by which I mean a consideration that we humans have a spiritual as well as a physical and mental dimension. If you are interested, please contact me, Claudia Nielsen at Claudia@cnielsen.eu. ”

Best regards
Claudia

10. News from Serge Beddington- Behrens

You have not had a newsletter from me for some months as I have been finishing off my long book on how, with 'Heart', we can 'make a difference'. It will be published by O Publishing next year

I also want to let you know of an important little book about to be published by my oldest friend, John Reed. It is called 'Elegant Simplicity; Reflections on an Alternate way of Being.' It will be out soon and I highly recommend it. It is short. It comments on many of the 'wrongs' of our society and suggests new approaches. I will let you know when it sees the light of day

Many of my latest articles are available on line. See my website www.sergebb.com

My Majorca retreats continue as usual this summer, which are again all about our learning to bring more play and joy and a greater 'celebratory spirit' into our daily lives - details below. Some scholarships may be offered to people who want to come but who are struggling financially. To contact me, either ring on 07968 113075 or email me at info@sergebb.com

GROWING THE GARDEN OF THE HEART
at Hawkwood College, Stroud, Gloucester 23-25 April
with Serge Beddington-Behrens

The heart's garden is an eminently lush one. So many wonderful and bright human qualities grow there, which sadly we sometimes don't have access to. Over this weekend, we will explore what some of these qualities are; how we can best fertilise and develop them, and what we need to do to keep our heart garden healthy and free of weeds. The intention is to 'enhearten' our world, so that our own personal garden may spread its delights and become increasingly incorporated into - and act as a transformational force upon - the structures of our world

Residential single £199 shared £179
Non-res £139
Fee includes all meals and refreshments (except B & B for non-residential)
Course begins with registration 4-6pm on Friday 23 April and ends with afternoon tea at 4pm on Sunday 25 April

With much love to you

13. 16th International Congress on Counselling

Final remarks and goals:

“Humanity, Profession, Spirituality of the counselor”
Tolentino (MC) – Castello della Rancia12-13-14 February 2010

We have successfully completed the International Conference on Counseling organized by PREPOS, NBCC ITALY and the Saint Valentine’s Knights Association under the patronage of FAIP (Italian Federation of Psychotherapy Association), NBCC International and EBCC (European Board for Certified Counselors)

In the Rancia’s Castle scenario, full of history around the Italian Independence, despite the cold and the snow we have constructed an unforgettable step in counseling development in Italy

200 participants coming from all Italy: 70% of the participants were already graduates counselors and the 30% were counselor educators

The workshop and the talks were really interesting and full of exploring themes around the three areas of the title and were much appreciated

Since the institutional attendance in the Friday afternoon about the certification system and the recognition of the profession (Pier Angelo Sardi, CEPLIS President - Bruxelles e Giorgio Berloffa, Assoprofessioni, UNIPROF, FAC, Accredia) until the Sunday topics of Spirituality passing by the Saturdays workshop and laboratories among the topics:

  • Certification for counselors NCC;
  • Free University of Counseling;
  • Recognition of the Counseling profession;

We went back from Tolentino sharing a sense of a useful profession and a mission to the people, and the certainty of our independence and freedom

The essential results of the Congress:

  • Founding of the Consorzio per la Libera Università del Counseling (Consortium for the Free University of Counseling): meets some of the most important Italian School of Counseling, pooling to share teachers and methods for the common goal of the construction of a strong theory/model for Advanced Relationship Counseling
  • Definition of the social position within the Consortium for the Free University of Counseling
  • Launch of the  National Certification for Counselors (NCC) and the related system of Quality certification of Counseling made by NBCC Italy, under the authorization of NBCC USA and International, and opening the preliminary evaluation for eligibility of the first candidates to the NCC
  • The sharing of a Relational way for Counseling as an essential topic of the counseling methods and for the social recognition of this helping-profession. The relational counseling have now a precise identity and a scientific corpus focus on all the human sciences (education, sociology, philosophy, anthropology, psychology, medicine, law etc.) to improve development, growing-up, well-being  and to resolve conflicts and people’s problem;

Not least the Saint Valentine’s Knights dinner on Saturday night: as every year we lived a friendship moment of sharing values and vision. Immersed in the fantastic Rancia’s Castle to celebrate each-others the value of love, as when we meditates at the Marmore’s Falls feeling the vertigo… When Gabriella sang for us or when Giovanni named new knights and we laugh about our dreams- much to overcome the cold!
