1. A Letter from our President

Dear Colleagues and Friends.

EUROTAS is in a process of transformation – from a network of transpersonal oriented friends to an association with professional departments (transpersonal psychotherapy, art-therapy, public relations), to a professional organization the network of friends integrated.

There is an engaged working board of 11 members which meets in person three times the year.

Recently we had a EUROTAS  Board  Meeting  in Vienna and also an ECCA meeting. The board discussion was centered on EUROTAS professionalism which is – among others also related to the intended EAP membership of Eurotas, the necessity to create the position of an executive director , the urgency to raise the financial potency of EUROTAS.

This will happen by an increased number of members. Invited are individual and professional members (ECCA certified psychotherapists) and organizational members (national transpersonal associations, training institutes).

  • We ask all national associations who are not members until now to apply for a membership.

  • We ask transpersonal oriented professionals to become a member.

  • We ask transpersonal educated and working psychotherapists to apply for the EUROTAS certification and become members.

  • We ask transpersonal working schools and training institutes in Transpersonal Psychology and Psychotherapy to apply for accreditation and become members.

EUROTAS  now has around 70 highly qualified certified therapists and 4 (almost) accredited training-institutes in transpersonal psychotherapy (!).  More about this at the General Assembly in Riga/Latvia.

In the meantime I hope you will  look below at and register for our conference. Ingrida Indane and the wonderful team are making great progress and there are already a large number of participants who will be coming from  many countries.  You can see below also the report of the First International  Conference of Transpersonal Psychology of the Baltic Countries and  news of  a new M.Sc  Course in Consciousness and Transpersonal  Studies

Which is being run by the Scientific and Medical  Network and the University of Northampton in England.

Heartfelt greetings from a hot summer day in Freiburg / Germany

Ingo Benjamin Jahrsetz

The Conference will:

  • provide an invaluable investment in the transpersonal movement and in the scientific understanding of Transpersonal Psychology

  • strengthen the conviction that spirituality and creativity is an integral part of contemporary life.

During the creative process people often find themselves in a special altered state of mind. Art in its essence is transpersonal. We are creating this Conference as a large piece of art and invite you to paint it with the colors of your personalities and presence. This will be a happening where everyone will become an artist!
We invite psychologists, psychotherapists, philosophers, educators, artists and other specialists to explore and prepare lectures, presentations, workshops and discussions on the following questions:

  • What do we all have in common as a world community?

  • What is distinctive in our cultural needs?

  • How can we speak about spirituality and creativity, while retaining a scientific approach to these phenomena?

  • What is the mission of Transpersonal Psychology in everyday life and today's culture?

  • What is the role of Transpersonal Psychology in the development of global processes?

  • What do we mean by the word "spirituality"?

  • Do spirituality and religiosity differ, and if so how?

  • What is the significance of spirituality in psychology and psychotherapy?

  • Does spirituality influence creative thinking, and if so how?

  • Does creative thinking and activity promote spirituality, and if so how?

  • Are the spiritual and the material the same or opposite?

  • Are spirituality and modern science compatible?

  • What is the interconnection between spirituality and creativity?

  • What is the scientific research on creativity?

  • How is creativity experienced in altered states of consciousness and everyday life?

  • Are there factors that promote or inhibit creativity?

  • What are manifestations of creativity from antiquity to the present day?

  • Are we experiencing an economic crisis or a spiritual crisis, or both?

Everyone is welcome to submit their presentation with the following criteria:
- Use an approach that is compatible with the science of psychology;
- Develop a creative and dynamic presentation; and
- Include empirical evidence.

Many well-known psychologists, psychotherapists, art therapists and philosophers as Ashok Gangadean, David Lukoff, Serge Beddington-Behrens, Mara Vidnere and others from the whole world have already registered for our Conference. We are certain that the process of organizing the conference and your participation itself will bring more positive movement. This conference will remind us of the importance of spiritual values and their application to help overcome our personal challenges of the current economical crisis.

Latvian writer Sudraba Edžus has a well-known story about Crazy Dauka – a boy who wanted to reach the place where the sky and the sea meet, to get to know what is beyond...

We invite you to come together with us to explore “what is beyond the horizon”!

Our conference will take place at the Baltic seacoast. The sea is a symbol of unity, wisdom, depth, and new challenges.

We are aware of our responsibility. However like Crazy Dauka, do we feel a sense of challenge!

Ingrida Indane  EUROTAS2012 Conference Director

4. M.Sc in Consciousness and Transpersonal Studies

  • What is the fundamental nature of consciousness?

  • What does research on brain function and other branches of science reveal about consciousness and the spiritual dimension to the human mind?

  • Does mind extend beyond the physical body? What lies beyond “I”?

  • How do we achieve that deep transformation in our being which yields a profound sense of unity and harmony?

  • Is what we call the ‘unconscious’ actually an aspect of the path towards the spiritual core of our being?

  • What psychological insights can we discern in the world’s great spiritual and mystical traditions?

  • How have the arts explored the transpersonal realms of experience and expanded our access to higher states of consciousness?

  • Do the spiritual traditions stand to gain through dialogue with scientific and psychological research into the nature of self and human potential?

  • Is it all just wishful thinking… delusions beyond our ‘status’ as mere humans in a meaningless cosmos…?

This MSc course – a collaborative project between the Scientific and Medical Network and the University of Northampton – has been designed for those who find themselves asking questions such as the above. The course is directed by Professor Les Lancaster, and provides an intellectually-challenging programme of study which focuses on issues including:

  • the nature of consciousness and its relation to the brain

  • possibilities of consciousness beyond the brain

  • the psychology of self and higher states of being

  • creativity and transformation

  • psychological models and spiritual maps

  • the psychological basis of spiritual and mystical practices

  • the dialogue between science and mysticism

In addition to a rigorous curriculum, the course is distinctive in valuing experiential approaches to learning and encouraging students to incorporate insights from the course into their own life journeys.

7. U.K. News from The Wrekin Trust

A Forum for Contemporary Spirituality

Beyond 2012:
Towards a Planetary Consciousness

Wrekin Forum
Annual Round Table

Hawkwood College
Painswick Old Road,
Stroud, Glos, GL6 7QW

21 - 23 September 2012

An invitation to all associates and friends

We warmly invite you to join our Annual Round Table to be held at Hawkwood College on 21-23 September 2012. Each year, by coming together, we share our current life experience with kindred spirits as did the Arthurian knights of old. By doing so we can encourage each other and collectively shine a greater light into our changing world.
2012 seems to be a year that is marking a shift from one era to another. For many it is involving great intensity and a clearing of the old to make way for the new, which may feel a little like the Herculean talk of 'cleaning the Augean stables'. At the same time many are experiencing a glimpse of a shift towards a more 'planetary consciousness'. Maybe this is the year in which we both clear away the 'old' and also welcome the new vision which is emerging.
We are told by many teachers that the next thirteen-year cycle will be momentous in its implications for the future of life on planet earth, and that each of us is being asked to live from deeper levels of our being and work to make the invisible visible through everything we do. Maybe it is for groupings like Wrekin to grasp what is involved in being a 'collective Messiah' and extend our consciousness to higher dimensions of being.
As in previous years we will aim to weave together opportunities to learn from others and also to share our own experiences and insights.
To mark the recent re-publication of Sir George Trevelyan's three books, Janice Dolley and David Lorimer will offer a resume of his inspirations that underpinned the formation of Wrekin Trust and which it is now the responsibility of our generation to realise in today's world.
And, because it is today's young people who will be the ones to live into the planetary consciousness now emerging, we will be joined on Saturday afternoon by a group of young people, including students of Waldorf College in Stroud, as we engage in an inter-generational world cafe, and explore what this feels like, what is asked of us, and how can we work together on this unfoldment.
There will also be an opportunity, for those of us who would like to contribute, to share our creative gifts of song, poetry, dance, story-telling, or the visual arts, on the theme of Planetary Consciousness.
